Studio is shipped with an in-built Pramati Server which enables developers to test-deploy their applications before deploying them on production servers. Studio also provides seamless integration with other servers like WebLogic 6.1 and Oracle 9iAS, which can be configured and used for test-deploying applications developed in Studio.
This allows applications to be developed in a vendor independent environment and then run on any configured server. This chapter describes how to configure different servers and use them from within Studio.
Refer subsequent chapters for details on working with Pramati Server, WebLogic Server 6.1 and Oracle 9iAS.
To deploy applications on third party servers from Studio, the servers need to be registered in Studio. After a server has been registered in Studio, multiple instances of the server can be configured for test-deploying applications. By default, the in-built Pramati Server is the only server that is registered and all operations are performed on it.
To register the server, click on Tools > Configure from the main menu. In the Tools Configure dialog box that comes up, check against the name of the server that is to be registered and close the dialog box.
example
To register the WebLogic 6.1 Server, check the option WebLogic 6.1 Deployer in the Tools Configure dialog box.
After registering the server in Studio, multiple instances of the server with different properties can be configured using the Server Configuration dialog box. Click on Tools > Server Configuration from the main menu to bring up the Server Configuration dialog. Pramati Server 3.0 is added, by default. Modifications are also allowed in Pramati Server 3.0.
The Server Configuration dialog comprises two sections -
The left side of the panel displays the instances of the servers created in Studio. The in-built Pramati Server 3.0 is the default server and cannot be deleted.
The right side of the panel allows server instances to be created and also allows their properties to be configured. To modify server configurations, select the instance on the left side of the panel and make the required changes on the right side of the panel.
To add new server instances, follow the given procedure:
Server This field on the right side of the panel displays all the registered servers. Select the registered server from the combo box in the field, Server.
Name Selecting the server from the type field enables the field Name. Enter the name of the server instance that is to be created here. Multiple instances of the same server can be created in Studio.
Add Once the required information has been entered in the Settings Panel, click on the Add button. This adds the new instance of the server in Studio.
Delete To delete the server instance that was created, select the name on the left side of the panel and click on the Delete button.
To work with the in-built Pramati Server, and learn how to configure the same remotely, read the chapter Working with Pramati Server 3.0. Similarly to work with WebLogic Server, read the chapter Working with WebLogic Server, and to work with Oracle Server, the chapter Working with Oracle 9iAS.
After the server instance has been added in Studio, the Server Box in the Status bar (in the Output tab) displays all the server instances that have been configured in Studio. Selecting one from the list available in the combo box makes the selected server instance the current server.
Starting the server using Tools > Start Server from the main menu always starts the current server. The current server can also be started using the Signal box in Status bar.
